Nakane Shokai's MONKEY
This Monkey placed 3rd provisionally in the DX32 Custom Contest held at the “Enjoy 4 Mini” event in 2023, and then pushed its way up to first place after votes from readers all over the country were tallied. The base is a GC-017 Aluminum Frame made by G-Craft, and the tank is also aluminum made by SP Takegawa. The engine, which could hardly be seen at the Enjoy 4 Mini exhibition because it was wrapped in a full cowl, is a Desmo, the pinacle of SP Takekawa products. When we asked the owner from Nakane Shokai about the reason for the win, he said, “I guess the NSR Honda-like coloring made a big impression". The distinctive cowl is a one-off by Eiken, who have built many famous customs that are seen all over the country, and the face features a look, with almond shaped eyes, reminiscent of the BMW S1000RR.
The body, including the seat cowl, gives off a real sense of speed. The voluminous wheels and the the front fender that has been hammered out of aluminum are by Private Power. Being 8-inch with double discs and double calipers, they are hardly visible anymore, but the front 6.0J & rear 7.0J one-off wheels are 5-spoke with the same design as the hydraulic clutch release cover. The fact that there were only a few Monkey-based customs that had been converted to supersport style must have attracted a lot of votes from the readers.
Bodyworks
The garnish on the front of the face and other parts attached to the sides of the cowl create a design that is more than just a full cowl. The smoke windshield is self-made.
The tank is by SP Takegawa in order to make it taller. The 30mm extended frame created a huge gap between the stem and tank, so the mount on the inside of the tank tunnel was modified by 140 Power in order to reposition the tank further forward.
The molding of all the cowl parts, including the seat, was done by Eiken.
Engine
Since it was decided from the beginning to put in the SP Takegawa Desmo head engine, the GC-017 frame, which is 30mm longer than stock, was chosen to avoid interference with the tire. Since the extra-wide stem created a gap between the cowl and the frame, a G-Craft subframe was also installed.
The engine is 124cc with an SP Takegawa S Touring transmission, and the carburetor is an FCR Φ28 downdraft. It took about a year and a half to build, and was completed just one week before the Enjoy 4 Mini event.
Chassis
The wheels and disc rotors are one-offs by Private Power, and the KSR inverted forks have machined bottom cases with integrated caliper supports to allow the SHIFT UP calipers to be attached without modification. Of course, the forks have been shortened and the brakes have been converted to double discs!
The G-Craft swingarm has also been modified by Private Power to be wider, and the rear brakes use double calipers.
The OVER Racing TT Formula Full Titanium Exhaust is installed without modification and the rear shocks are shortened Ohlins shocks. You can really tell that they were enjoying themselves when building this custom!
