A Step Above: SUZUKI GSX-R1000 Custom by BrightLogic

BrightLogic's GSX-R1000

Bright Logic will celebrate their 30th anniversary this year. They have customized many bikes based on requests from owners, but have also modified bikes that they purchase in order to put them up for sale, and bikes from the GSX-R series are models they often work with. This GSX-R1000 is one that has been modified for sale. The K7/K8 ('07/'08 model, aside from the coloring the specifications are the same) is used as a base for this custom. Mr. Takenaka of Bright Logic has always recommended this model because of its compactness and responsiveness. When they modify a bike for sale, each part of the used bike is checked and cleaned thoroughly. While most stores that sell used bikes would put the bike up for sale at this point, Bright Logic is different. The brake hoses are replaced, the battery is replaced, and the rear brake disc is replaced as well. The tires are also changed to the latest brand (Bridgestone RS11 in this case). They want the customer to be able to enjoy the bike fully after purchase. In other words, their refurbishment menu is one step above the rest. Not only are parts installed and replaced, but the bike is also disassembled, cleaned, greased, and checked for proper operation. This is an ideal example of how to perform maintenance and puts Bright Logic an even further step up from the rest.

Even if the calipers are not Brembo, a Brembo radial front brake master cylinder is essential (RMC Forged in this case), and the clutch master cylinder, which is hydraulic on the K7/K8, is also upgraded to Brembo (RMC Billet with a CNC body) for better operability. The step is also changed to a fixed position bar for a more direct feel, and a new 520-size drive chain, and aluminum fuel tank for weight reduction and improved mobility are installed, bringing this bike to the level of a complete custom. The already high-level base model has been further enhanced, and the suspension and color can be changed after purchase. Though the basis for preparing a used bike for sale is to replace consumable parts (and sometimes major parts) with new stock parts, upgrading to more reliable, easier to use parts like this is a common practice for Bright Logic. Mr. Takenaka was a race mechanic for YOSHIMURA from the time of the GSX1000S Katana until after the release of the GSX-R750, right up until the TTF-1 became a superbike. In his work, he has searched for ways to help the rider operate the bike as close as possible to how they want to. What parts should be used for this purpose, and how should they be assembled for correct operation? This is reflected in Bright Logic's current custom modifications. As for parts, Takenaka says, "We are a custom shop, so we are not restricted to stock parts; we just use what makes the bike better and do what seems obvious to us." However, his tenaciousness in continuing to perform these "obvious" tasks is something that should be put in the spotlight.

Handle

The meter and stem are K7/K8 stock. Though you can't tell from the photo we'd like to point out that the stem has been reassembled and greased.

The clip-on handlebars are stock, and the left and right master cylinders are Brembo Racing. The brake is RMC Forged, and the clutch is RMC Billet with a CNC body.

Bodyworks

The front exterior, including the headlight, uses CLEVER WOLF's '07-'08 GSX-R1000 Street Full Cowl. CLEVER WOLF cowls match well with the other parts of the bike, so they are often used by Bright Logic. A drive recorder is installed in place of the on-board camera, and the front camera is located inside the right duct.

The fuel tank is made of aluminum for overall weight reduction, and also improves mobility by reducing the weight of parts that are high up on the bike. The entire bike is finished in white and black, with a large format Bright Logic cut-out sticker, similar to the SUZUKI logo on their current models.

The seat and seat cowl are stock K7/K8, and the pillion seat cover is a stock K7/K8 optional part. The rear side drive recorder camera is attached to the left of the license plate holder.

Engine

The 999cc liquid-cooled straight-4 engine is also K7/K8 stock, with YOSHIMURA Engine Case Guards (protectors) on both sides. The carbon frame cover is made by CLEVER WOLF.

Chassis

The 3-spoke 3.50-17/6.00-17 size wheels, DLC treated 43mm diameter upside down forks, TOKICO 4-piston front calipers, and front discs are stock for the GSX-R1000 K7/K8.

The yellow spring rear shock is also K7/K8 stock, but was replaced with a brand new one for this custom.

The TOKICO rear caliper, brake disc, aluminum swingarm and linkage are also stock, with a stand hook added. The right-side exhaust system is equipped with a Bright Logic silencer. The tires are Bridgestone RS11 with 120/70ZR17 and 190/55ZR17 sizes.

The step is changed to a fixed position bar while using the stock plate. The drive chain has been replaced with RK's 520XXW. This is a complete custom package with upgrades centered on ease of use and lightness, and though it is great as is, it would also be fun to modify it even further.
