Heavy, cold steel and shiny chrome plating - the new model modernizes the good old "motorcycle" taste

Royal Enfield is a manufacturer that has developed a large number of models mainly in the middle segment and has received high acclaim in various parts of the world. The company's lineup is characterized by models based on the "air-cooled engine/round-eyed naked model," which can be said to be the fundamental configuration of a motorcycle. However, in the 650cc class, the largest displacement class in the lineup, the company has introduced a number of models covering a wide range of genres, including the café-style sport "Continental GT650," the bobber-style "Shotgun 650," the "Super Meteor 650" cruiser, and the "Bear 650" scrambler. The models all share the same basic design. All are based on the same basic design, the OHC air-cooled twin engine, but are differentiated by their frames and various equipment.

It is a classic naked with the traditional naming of the "Brit 650," which made its Japan premiere at the Osaka MC Show.

The Brit is the sixth of the company's 650cc models introduced in Japan. The black and chrome design is full of classic motorcycle character.

The new Brit 650 is the latest addition to the 650cc class. The Brit is an "old-school" style roadster that inherits the name of Royal Enfield's famous machine of the past, with the 350cc model preceding it being sold in Japan from 2024. The basic design shares components with the "Classic 650" in the same class, but the blacked-out body, gold pinstripes, and metal parts decorated with beautiful chrome finishes give it a styling that is anything but frivolous. Although the specifications for the Japanese version have not yet been disclosed, referring to the European specifications, the maximum output is 34.6 kW (47 ps) at 7250 rpm, the vehicle weighs 243 kg, has a 6-speed transmission, and uses 19-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels. The transmission is 6-speed, and the wheel size is 19 inches at the front and 18 inches at the rear. Like the classic 650, it also comes standard with "tiger eye" style position lamps and a headlight visor. Of course, the instrument panel is a single analog display, but it can display "tripper navigation" on a round mini-LCD, a modern feature that belies its appearance. The suspension is also by SHOWA, both front and rear, so one can expect a very comfortable ride.

The engine is a common unit, a 648cc air-cooled OHC twin. The output and torque announced overseas are 47 PS and 52.3 Nm, respectively, which are modest for its class.

The fuel tank is decorated with pinstripes and a three-dimensional emblem. Capacity is 14.8 liters.

The headlights are round LEDs, with small "Tiger Eye" position lamps on the left and right nacelles.

The gauges are analog single-lens type. However, a small full-color LCD monitor is installed on the right side for navigation display.

The Brit shares many parts with the "Classic 650," but its long, thick seat is a unique feature.

Large F19/R18 wheels and SHOWA suspension are both stable and reliable. The ride quality is something to look forward to!

The "Classic 650" 125th anniversary model has a premium special paint job!

Yet another special model was on display at the Osaka show. The "Classic 650 125th Anniversary Special Edition" was painted in special colors to commemorate the company's 125th anniversary. The base model, the Classic 650, is a retro naked model with an orthodox teardrop tank and a single seat. The special color scheme features details and paintwork that "pay homage to the heritage," and a gold "125 YEARS" emblem on the fuel tank. The body color is a classic red base with Hypershift painted Majora-style gold. This finish, which changes its appearance depending on the angle of the light, gives it an appealing sense of luxury and specialty that sets it apart from the standard model.

The red base color with "Hypershift" paint changes color depending on the angle of view.

The side covers also feature an exclusive logo with the number "125" on it.

The diamond stitching on the seat leather helps to add to its luxurious feel.

The "Brit 650" and "Classic 650 125th Anniversary Special Edition" have not yet been announced for release in Japan. However, the Royal Enfield booth at the Osaka MC Show and the Tokyo MC Show to be held from March 27 (Friday) have been confirmed, so many riders will have a chance to see them. We look forward to seeing Royal Enfield's new innovation, which is different from mere neo-retro cars, and is pushing forward with its own unique world view.
