SANCTUARY's Z1000MkII

"It has a typical 17-inch RCM chassis with a 1045cc engine customized with a focus on long-life. This bike faithfully incorporates the current RCM (Radical Construction Manufacture, the name for complete customs built by AC Sanctuary) method,” says Mr. Nakamura of SANCTUARY, explaining the basics of this Z1000 Mk.II.

Since this is a "complete custom", a variety of unique modifications have been made. The gradation of color from black to red was specified by the owner as the base color he wanted, and many of the parts were selected in black or other subtle tones to match this. The NITRO RACING Titanium Megaphone Exhaust, which is now a one-off production item, is also used for a custom look unique to this bike.

As mentioned earlier, the engine is customized with the "Long-Life Package"; the pistons are forged by DiNx, SANCTUARY's Internal Combustion Equipment Division, and all the internal combustion work, including cylinder boring and honing, surface grinding, valve guide replacement, and seat cutting, is also performed by DiNx. This work, which has become a standard part of the RCM menu, not only improves the life of the engine, but also improves smoothness and feel.

"The pistons and processing are precise, and that's how these results are achieved. At the same time, the level of skill of our mechanics increases since they determine the settings, order the processing, and assemble the engine when it gets back. The details are very small, but the accumulation of such details makes the machine more complete. It has the original air-cooled four-engine flavor of the Z series, but it also has more power and reliability. In other words, peace of mind is increased,” said Nakamura.

Speaking of peace of mind, the shop's follow-up after the bike has been completed is also noteworthy. This bike was ordered by a customer who lives quite far away, and after delivery, he found there was a slight oil seepage in the engine. The problem was a defective seal nut which is a common occurrence with factory produced parts, but SANCTUARY paid for the transportation of the bike, repaired the problem, and delivered it again free of charge. The shop not only builds the custom, but makes sure to deal with any initial defects to give their customers peace of mind. You could say this service embodies the "complete" in a complete custom.

Handle

The gauges keep the stock setup, while a DAYTONA RCM Concept Handlebar has been mounted on a SCULPTURE 43 Stem Kit TYPE-1. The clutch is hydraulically driven, and both left and right master cylinders are Brembo RCS.

Bodyworks

Paint Shop Okushin was in charge of painting the body based on the owner's original idea of a gradation of color from black to red.

The front of the tank starts off in black and fades into red moving towards the rear, the top of the side covers and the first half of the tail cowl remain red, and moving towards the end of the tail and lower part of the side covers it goes back to black again (the front fender starts in red and fades to black, leading into the body color). The seat is a DAYTONA RCM Concept Seat.

Engine

The engine is 1045cc with DiNx φ71mm Forged Pistons. Boring, honing, cylinder/head surface grinding, valve guide replacement, seat cutting, and other internal combustion processing was all done by DiNx, and PAMS HF Valves were installed. The oil cooler is an EARL'S x NITRO RACING 9-inch 13-row, and the electrical system uses an Uotani SP2 Full Power Kit.

Intake & Exhaust

The intake uses a TMR φ36mm carburetor. The frame is reinforced using SANCTUARY ST-II reinforcement with 17-inch compatible dimensions, chainline track securing, wide laydown, etc.

The exhaust is a Hand-Bent Titanium Megaphone EX by NITRO RACING, which used to be a part of their product lineup but is now only produced one-off.

Chassis

The steps are by NITRO RACING. The drive chain is an EK530RCM BK;GP (black/gold), which also matches the body color well.

The Ohlins RWU forks are part of the Noblest Ohlins Upright φ43 ExM Package. The front brakes use Brembo 484 Cafe Racer Calipers and SUNSTAR RCM Concept φ320 Discs.

The rear brakes are a combination of Brembo P2 34 calipers and SUNSTAR φ250 discs.

The rear suspension is a SCULPTURE R.C.M Exclusive Wide Swingarm + Ohlins Legend Twin Shocks. The front and rear wheels are O-Z Racing forged aluminum GASS RS-A in 3.50-17/5.50-17 sizes.
