This project features a MY BIKE selected from those posted on the Webike Community that caught our editorial team's attention. This time, we're featuring the SUZUKI "Grasstracker Big Boy," owned by "Gaogao.".

Suzuki's Grasstracker Big Boy is a model born amidst the street bike boom of the early 2000s. It features a lightweight, slim body equipped with an air-cooled single-cylinder engine, and its style is reminiscent of a flat-track racer. The "Big Boy" model, in particular, uses 19-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels with thick tires, achieving both a more powerful appearance and stable riding performance.

In the minor model change of 2008, fuel injection (FI) was adopted to improve environmental performance and starting ease. It is also very popular as a base for customization due to its simplicity, and is now a discontinued model that is cherished and passed down among enthusiasts for its inherent quality.

Gaogao, whom we are introducing today, chose this bike emphasizing its suitability for camping touring, its low maintenance costs (no vehicle inspection required), and its lightweight body. They are attracted to its versatility, allowing enjoyment from on-road to off-road atmospheres, and they treat it with strong affection, wanting to ride it until it breaks.

■ Reasons for Purchase, Usage, and Comparison Models

・Want to go camping touring

・No vehicle inspection

・Lightweight

・Prefer fuel injection

These conditions led me to buy it.

■ Strengths

・Lightweight

・With spoke wheels, it can handle off-road if you switch to off-road tires.

・Good starting performance with fuel injection (FI adopted from models after September 2008)

・Can be made to look like a vintage motocross bike with simple customization.

・Wide range of customization possibilities, from on-road to off-road and even American styles.

・No vehicle inspection.

・It runs energetically on winding roads, leveraging its lightness (I could scrape my knee even with stock steps).

■ Weaknesses

・Slow (with stock muffler)

・Handlebar width is too wide, making U-turns difficult (especially to the right. My right hand hits my body).

　　　↑ I managed to solve this by slightly raising the handlebars to a more upright position.

・No trip meter.

・Wish for a slightly larger steering angle.

・No storage space (the seat itself is bolted down).

・The gear ratio between 2nd and 3rd gear is a bit large, making gear selection tricky on winding roads (especially uphill).

■ Advice for Future Buyers

It's slow.

Especially if you're switching from a larger bike, you'll probably shout "So slow!" inside your helmet at first.

But eventually, you'll start thinking, "Ah, this is how a motorcycle was supposed to feel."

If you can't understand the above, I don't recommend buying it.

Now, for those who understand the above:

If you're hesitating, buy it.

You can find decent condition used bikes if you look.

However, in my opinion, I expect the price of this bike to increase steadily from now on (as of 2026).

Once you buy it, it's yours.

You can then lean towards on-road use, or make it an off-road spec and ride on light dirt roads; it's a good bike with great depth.

I think I'll ride this one until it breaks.

Addendum

I've mentioned it's slow multiple times, but if you switch to an aftermarket muffler and get the settings right, it runs quite briskly.

The stock muffler seems to suppress exhaust quite a bit.

However, with that said, if you change the muffler, the exhaust efficiency might become too good, leading to frequent backfires.

For FI models, you might need countermeasures like disabling the secondary air system (though not recommended for environmental reasons).

■ Future Customization Plans

It's a valuable discontinued model.

I want to customize it in a way that allows it to be fully restored to its original condition at any time.
