This project features a bike that catches our editorial team's eye from the MY BIKE posts on the Webike Community. This time, we're featuring the Triumph "Street Triple RS," owned by "Shimacro."
STREET TRIPLE RS (765cc) Owner: Shimacro
The Triumph Street Triple series is a naked sportbike that fuses the agility of the company's flagship Speed Triple model with the performance of the Daytona's inline three-cylinder engine. Introduced in 2017, this model expanded its displacement to 765cc and significantly enhanced its completeness as a modern sportbike by adopting features like electronic throttle control and riding modes.
The "RS" grade, in particular, is characterized by its high dynamic performance, covering a wide range from circuits to winding roads, equipped with fully adjustable front and rear suspension and Brembo brake calipers. Its nimble handling and the unique feel of its three-cylinder engine, which revs up smoothly from low to high RPMs, continue to captivate many riders.
Shimacro chose this Street Triple RS as a replacement for their long-time companion. After considering several candidates with different characteristics, such as racer replicas and tourers, they decided on this model, prioritizing the characteristics of the three-cylinder engine, the experience of fully adjustable suspension, and the bike's light weight. They seem to be fully enjoying its all-rounder capabilities while primarily using it for touring.
■Reason for Purchase, Usage, and Comparison Models
I bought this to replace my previous Z250, which had exceeded 100,000 km and started experiencing engine stalls. I considered the racer-like ZX-6R, the easy-to-handle Z650, the long-range tourer CBR400R, and the YZF-R7 with its racer-like appearance and ease of handling. However, I decided on this bike because I wanted to experience a three-cylinder engine, try fully adjustable suspension, and I liked its lightness. My primary use is touring. Although it's a used model, I'm satisfied because it came with new front and rear tires, and was equipped with ETC, USB, a visor, and a helmet holder.
■Pros
First off, it runs exceptionally well. The smooth acceleration with no loss when revved is very exhilarating. While the circuit is where it truly shines, it's an amazing all-rounder, so you can ride it anywhere, and it's fun. It's a bike that can handle mountain winding roads and rough roads with ease. It's also easy to make tight turns, and I find the brakes to be effective and easy to control.
Furthermore, its lightness makes it easy to maneuver. The sound is also satisfyingly deep and pleasant, and it's fun how the sound changes when you rev it up. While opinions on its appearance may vary, I personally like its unique and somewhat aggressive look.
■Cons
(Fuel Economy and Range)
With a fuel economy of about 18 km/L, the range is around 300 km. The warning light comes on after about 250 km. My Z250 had a range of 500 km, so I now have to consider refueling timing and locations during touring. Also, since it requires premium gasoline, the fuel costs have increased considerably. However, considering its displacement and power, I think the fuel economy is quite good.(Carrying Capacity)
It can't carry much luggage. I also couldn't find any good top case mounts. I think a tail bag and side bags would be beneficial.(Riding)
Solely, it's not suitable for riding slowly. The RPMs drop too low, and the engine sounds like it's struggling. Conversely, it's so enjoyable that you might be tempted to rev it too much, so caution is advised.
■Advice for Potential Buyers
I bought it used, but so far, I haven't had any issues. It runs exceptionally well and is an all-rounder that doesn't discriminate against roads. It's also easy to make tight turns.
While the fuel economy is decent considering its displacement and power, the gasoline costs are significant. The maintenance costs are inevitably higher, but I suppose it's appropriate for this class of bike.
And above all, it's fun. Depending on your skill level, it's easy to handle, making it recommended even for a first large motorcycle.
■Future Customization Plans
The heat from the headlights is intense, so I'm considering switching to LEDs.
