Former Champion Joins Honda Factory Team, Young Talent Signs Multi-Year Contract
Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) has announced contract agreements with Fabio Quartararo and David Alonso for the MotoGP class, the pinnacle of the FIM Road Racing World Championship. Both riders will compete in the premier class aboard Honda machinery starting from the 2027 season, a period of significant technical transition.
Quartararo, 27, from France, is a top rider who became the first French rider to win the MotoGP World Championship in 2021. He currently serves as the ace rider for the Yamaha Factory team.
In his debut MotoGP season in 2019, he earned Rookie of the Year honors with six pole positions and seven podium finishes. He secured his first victory in 2020 and clinched the World Championship title in 2021 with five wins. To date, he has achieved a total of 11 wins, 32 podiums, and 21 pole positions in the premier class. With this agreement, he is scheduled to compete for Honda's factory team, "Honda HRC," for two years starting in 2027.
Meanwhile, Alonso, 20, from Spain, is a highly promising young talent. He made his full-time debut in the Moto3 class in 2023, finishing third in the series standings. In his second full season in 2024, he demonstrated overwhelming dominance by winning 14 out of 20 races to become the Moto3 class champion. He is set to move up to the Moto2 class in 2025 and is currently engaged in a fierce championship battle in that category.
HRC has signed Alonso to a multi-year contract starting in 2027, and there is significant anticipation for how this young talent will perform in the premier class.
Transition to New 850cc Regulations, Aiming for Championship with a Four-Rider Lineup
The MotoGP class will implement new technical regulations starting from the 2027 season. The engine displacement for race bikes will be reduced from the current 1000cc to 850cc, and there will be a wide range of changes to bike specifications and technical regulations. In line with these major regulatory changes, Honda is currently developing a new race machine. The challenge to once again reach the pinnacle of global racing begins in this new era of the premier class.
For the 2027 season, Johann Zarco, 36, from France, and Diogo Moreira, 22, from Brazil, who are currently competing in the MotoGP class, will remain with the team. They will be joined by the newly signed Quartararo and Alonso. These four riders will compete aboard the newly developed race machine, aiming for the series championship. The lineup is now a formidable force, comprising skilled riders from veterans to young talents.
Further details regarding the specific team participation and other arrangements for each rider will be announced sequentially as they are finalized.
