AELLA (along with ACTIVE) are working to develop Performance Dampers for Ducati models. When I heard about this, I decided that as a Ducati enthusiast I had to try them out, so I headed to Kyoto, where AELLA is headquartered. This time, we tested the Monster, Multistrada V4S, Diavel V4, and Scrambler Full Throttle. The beauty of each engine, whether air-cooled twin, water-cooled twin, or V4, has been brought out even more and the ride quality has improved. These are a must-try for the Ducatista who loves touring!

Great for touring and sport! More quality and comfort for your Ducati!

The unpleasant "noise" of the engine clears up making the pulse clearer, so pushing the throttle is a very pleasant experience. The Ducati L-twin (or V-twin, depending on the mounting angle) and V4 engines, in particular, feel much better with this unpleasantness gone. Furthermore, because the chassis is also free of this unpleasantness, it is easier to approach corners, and the feeling of stability while turning is also improved. This leads to an overall sense of stability, and there is a sensation that the rider's actions are transmitted more linearly to the bike. Turning is also smooth, with no time lag, and the bike does not feel as if it is being jerked back. This direct feeling is also good.

When opening or releasing the throttle, when applying the brakes, when leaning, all of these actions made me stop and think, "There's something different here." I repeated the test rides, asking Mr. Wada and Mr. Ametani to put on and take off the Performance Dampers again and again. Of course, after riding for a while, one becomes accustomed to both settings, so I rode with and without the Performance Damper to fully appreciate the effects.

Although each model tends to have its own unique characteristics, in the end I preferred them all with the Performance Damper installed. However, the riding style, sensors, racks, and other factors will probably affect how the rider feels. On the racetrack, the strong stability of the damper may divide people's preferences, but for the street, I didn't feel like there were any negative aspects of having the damper installed.

The amount of damper actuation of the Performance Damper when riding is less than 1mm. Of course, if you try to move it by hand, it will not move at all. However, it is that minute damping of frame deformation and vibrations that is the benefit of having one installed. Although I did not do a long distance test ride this time, I am sure that it would directly contribute to reducing fatigue on a long touring trip.

DUCATI DIAVEL V4 (2022-) Performance Damper test ride!

■DUCATI DIAVEL V4 (2022-)
I was impressed with the calmness when changing direction on the hefty Diavel V4. Because the Performance Damper gives a sense of stability it was easier to turn and the engine was milder.

■For the Diavel V4 the Performance Damper mounts on the lower left side of the body.

■Mounted so that it connects to the engine from near the side stand.

DUCATI MONSTER+ (2021-) Performance Damper test ride!

■DUCATI MONSTER+ (2021-)
Personally, I felt that the effect for the Monster was rather small, but many AELLA staff members say that they feel a change. I think the extent to which you feel the effects is different depending on how you ride.

■For the Monster, the Performance Damper is mounted on the right side of the body. The bracket is longer than for other models, which might be the reason it seems a little less effective.

■The Performance Damper is a new way to change the settings on your Ducati that has never been seen before.

■Mr. Ametani of AELLA worked quickly and efficiently when I asked him to install and remove the Performance Dampers over and over.

■I enjoyed discussing with Mr. Wada of AELLA how it felt to actually ride each bike with the Performance Damper installed.

Let's take a look at some other Ducati parts available from AELLA!

■SCRAMBLER 2G (2023-) Icon / Full Throttle / Nightshift
Cylinder head protector to protect the cylinder head from rocks and debris kicked up by the front tire. Made of stainless steel for a high-grade accent.

■SCRAMBLER 2G (2023-) Icon / Full Throttle / Nightshift
Oil cooler protector and regulator protector.

■Ducati's L-twin engine is slim so damage to the forks is common in the event of a fall. These axle sliders protect your bike in such cases.

■SCRAMBLER 2G (2023-) Icon / Full Throttle / Nightshift
A frame slider that protects your bike in the event of a fall. It is designed with installing the Performance Damper at the same time in mind.

■With its high-class look, this engine slider matches perfectly with the Diavel V4.

■Of course, it comes in a left and right set and the base is machined aluminum.

■DIAVEL V4 (2022-)
With this insert-type machined aluminum adjustable handlebar, a wider, more comfortable position can be achieved. Available in polished, white, and black. With AELLA's unique handlebar adjustment function this is a must-have item for those who have concerns about handlebar position.

■DIAVEL V4 (2022-)
Positions are as follows. Pullback angle: 25.5° (+3° from stock), Pullback angle: 22.5° (+1° from stock), Pullback angle: 21.5° (-1° from stock), Overall width: +5mm, Toward rider: 10mm*, Height: equivalent to stock.
*Using the standard 2mm spacer. 7mm and 12mm are also available as options. The distance from the rider can be set by changing the spacer.

■MONSTER+ (2021-)
Machined aluminum riding step kit that improves position and maneuverability.

■Black and white versions are also available in the same shape. With improved operability it will feel like the bike has become higher quality.
