Webike's Opinion
Here is a "YAMAHA VIRAGO125" custom by Webike community user "Dora-chan". The owner of this Virago 125 first fell into the world of motorcycles six years ago after encountering a BENLY 50S. Since then, he’s moved on from a Cub to a Jazz model and found satisfaction with the Virago. He describes motorcycles as "big model kits". Working on a bike is an engrossing, immersive experience that allows him to lose track of time, dream about the future, and feel excitement about possibilities.
Wanting a cruiser in the 125cc category, the owner bought this 1995 model Taiwan-spec Virago with cast wheels. Despite its 125cc size, the bike has a solid build, and he is drawn to its beautiful design created by the V-twin engine. Additionally, having the stature of a 250cc model means the parts are of better quality, and its durability is more than sufficient. The fuel economy was around 30 km/l, but after changing the sprocket to a 2.352 ratio, it increased to 42 km/l.
When it comes to sound, the owner says the V-twin engine creates the ultimate blissful tone. The engine hums pleasantly up to 60 km/h, creating a deep and satisfying rumble. However, due to the custom modifications, the exhaust and underbelly often scrape along the ground. That being said, the owner notes that the Virago itself is quite nimble and accelerates smoothly up to triple digits without a hitch.
He found the brakes to be a bit lacking at first, but after installing DAYTONA Red Brake Pads, control greatly improved. The stock foot pegs were initially too close, and at 175 cm (5'9") tall, the owner was left with a bent-knee, mid-control riding posture. This was solved by reversing the stock foot peg mounts and moving them about 70mm forward. Since the electrical system tends to be weak, the owner recommends using a voltmeter, and he’s also upgraded the lighting system to LED. Despite a few shortcomings, he lovingly refers to this bike as a “cute little thing” that’s simply a joy to love.
This air-cooled V-twin 125 carburetor bike is a rare gem that will likely never be produced again. The owner looks forward to gradually cleaning up the 20 years’ worth of accumulated dirt and rust over time.
