[Overseas] Possible to ride on public roads too!? Ducati's first enduro model "DESMO450 EDS" to be released in Europe in September, priced at approximately 2.34 million yen

Ducati is releasing the "DESMO450 EDS" in Europe, its first full-fledged enduro model, which was globally unveiled last fall. This off-road machine, equipped with a desmodromic engine and street-legal, is designed for a wide range of riders, from professionals to amateurs. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in September 2026.

"Desmo450 MX" Reimagined as an Enduro Model

The "DESMO450 EDS," newly introduced by Ducati, is the brand's first modern enduro model, embodying Ducati's passion for off-road riding, technology, and competitive spirit. This machine is optimized for navigating the harsh and ever-changing terrain of enduro riding, developed with the challenges of unpaved roads and mountain trails in mind. It has been specifically designed to meet the stamina, control, and versatility required by the ENDURO category.

The technology from the "DESMO450 MX" serves as the base, refined for enduro riding. The 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels are fitted with Metzeler "Six Days Extreme" tires, ensuring stability, grip, and precision on all surfaces. A newly designed 8.5-liter fuel tank is housed within the aluminum perimeter frame, extending the riding range without compromising ergonomics. The transparent tank allows the rider to check the fuel level at a glance.

Like the Desmo450 MX, which garnered attention for being the first off-road model to feature desmodromic timing, the DESMO450 EDS is powered by a 449.6cc desmo engine. The transmission is a 6-speed, reconfigured for enduro use.

The single-cylinder engine, featuring Ducati's signature desmodromic timing, has been redesigned to maximize torque and smooth power delivery, enhancing control and precision. The electric fan cooling system ensures consistent performance and reliability even in extreme enduro conditions. Additionally, standard equipment includes dedicated enduro protection parts (handguards, skid plate, clutch/dynamo covers, etc.) to shield delicate components from impacts and abrasion.

The front features a fairing with an LED headlight reminiscent of Ducati superbikes, adding a distinctive brand aesthetic. The LCD dashboard provides the rider with essential information for off-road riding.

Innovative Chassis and Suspension, Advanced Electronic Controls

The wheel sizes are 21 inches at the front and 18 inches at the rear, with a revised frame design. Various safety components have also been added.

The frame of the "DESMO450 EDS" is based on the aluminum perimeter frame of the MX model, with modified engine mounts to achieve rigidity suitable for enduro riding. This frame achieves a lightweight of less than 9 kg and delivers optimal performance through a maximally straight intake and exhaust port design. Composed of just 11 parts combining casting, forging, and extrusion, with minimized welding, it meets the goals of lightness, reliability, and rigidity.

The suspension system, developed in collaboration with Showa, features 49mm upside-down forks with 310mm of travel. Softer spring settings compared to the MX model enhance its ability to handle enduro-specific obstacles like rocks and roots, improving cornering stability and control in technical sections. The rear shock absorber is mounted on a progressive linkage, ensuring traction and stability during acceleration. This results in a nimble and highly maneuverable machine that allows riders of all levels, from amateurs to professionals, to ride with confidence.

The tank capacity is 8.5L, an increase of 1.3L from the MX model. The curb weight is kept down to 110kg.

The braking system, developed in cooperation with Brembo, features 260mm Galfer discs at the front and 240mm at the rear, equipped with brake pads optimized for enduro riding. Furthermore, with the optional "Ducati Performance racekit," advanced electronic controls such as the world's first enduro traction control system (DTC), launch control, engine brake control, and quick shifter become available. These systems can be customized via the X-Link app.

Currently, release information has only been announced for Europe, with deliveries scheduled to begin in September 2026. The price is 12,690 euros in Belgium, 14,590 euros in the Netherlands, and 12,271 euros in Luxembourg, approximately 2.34 million Japanese yen. We await further information regarding its introduction in Japan.
