How to bring out the best in an SR400

The curtain closed on the 43 year long history of the SR400 when the "Final Edition Limited" sold out in just a few minutes. Over the years it underwent modifications but its style as a real classic model remained almost unchanged. This can be seen as proof that the stock style is loved by many people. Honestly, I love a café racer custom, and vintage or chopper bobber customs are also great too. But there are times when I suddenly remember how good the stock style is. Here, we'll introduce some parts that fully bring out the charm of the stock look.

Sym'z Craft｜Traditional Megaphone Exhaust

This Traditional Megaphone Exhaust is overwhelmingly popular. The beauty of the silencer end, the perfect length, the pleasant sound that is neither too loud nor too quiet, and the hand-bent exhaust pipe of the full exhaust are all points that riders have fallen in love with. Those who have purchased this exhaust have all given rave reviews! (The full exhaust has nothing but 5 stars!) Since each pipe is carefully made one by one by craftsmen it is a bit pricey, but you will be satisfied none the less.

Motor Rock｜Kurumazakashita Trumpet Slip-on Exhaust

Bolt-on kit for the SR400/500 using Kurumazakashita's original exhaust. There are kits for both carburetor and FI models, so please choose the one that goes with your bike. The end part is removable for easy replacement of the glass wool, and a 1-3/4" inner silencer can be added for fine tuning of exhaust pressure and volume.

POSH Faith｜Classical Rearset

The SR has two types of steps depending on the year: from 1978 to 1983 and from 1996 onward they are closer to the front, and from 1984 to 1995 they are closer to the back and commonly referred to as the "stock rearset". The position of this Classical Rearset is the same distance back as the "stock rearset" and a little higher up. It utilizes stock parts from the era of the "stock rearset" to keep the price low, which is something everyone can be happy about.

Y'S GEAR｜Cast Wheel Set

These wheels are significantly lighter than the cast wheels used on the SR400SP (1979), while retaining the same look. The weight has been reduced by approximately 1.5kg for the front and 2.0kg for the rear. The diameter of the front wheel is now 18 inches (the old cast wheels were 19), expanding the rage for tire selection. The rear hub structure has also been changed to improve maintainability, and both tube and tubeless tires can now be mounted!
Compatibility: Disc brake models from 2001 onward (also compatible with drum brake models using an optional disc brake kit)

DAYTONA｜70's Surf Line Seat

This seat is made of molded urethane with some of the sponge removed for a style reminiscent of the 70's! By using the stock seat cowl it doesn't disrupt the balance with the tank and side covers. The seat height is reduced by approximately 45mm compared to stock, so we recommend it for those who are concerned about their footing.
Compatibility: 1980 to 2017 models (A separate installation kit is required when installing on 2010 to 2017 FI models)

K&H｜Double Seat

This is a thick double seat that can be installed with the stock seat cowl for all carburetor/FI models (including the final Type 5). The seat is wider than stock to improve riding comfort, and the area where the legs are lowered is narrower and less angular to achieve a footing similar to that of the stock seat. The higher seating position allows the knees to bend more gently and the riding posture becomes more like a standing posture, which transfers the load from the hips to the step. The increased load on the step reduces the burden on the hips and makes it easier to control the vehicle with the step. This seat makes long tours more comfortable and enjoyable.

EFFEX｜SR500 Replica Handlebar Kit

This handlebar faithfully reproduces those from the early SR500, which had a more upright riding position than the SR400. It is 28mm higher and 87mm closer than the stock handlebars for a more relaxed riding position.

GOODS｜ETC Built-in Side Cover

GOODS original side cover for the SR400/500 with space for an ETC unit inside. Starting with the 2019 model, because of the ECU there is no longer space behind the seat, making it difficult to mount the ETC as you would on a conventional SR. This problem is solved by integrating it into the side cover. The use of a stock key for security makes it possible to mount the ETC more safely.

Freak's PIT｜Oil Cooler Kit for SR

We recommend this for those who like subtle customizations that actually don't stand out. The cooling efficiency is quite high, and the oil temperature drops about 7-10 degrees Celsius (of course, the efficiency varies depending on the conditions). You don't have to worry about overcooling in the middle of winter, and it's good for all four seasons for street use. There is a choice of black or silver, so you can pick the color you like best.

Making your bike your own

It is no exaggeration to say that the SR is a standard among Japanese motorcycles. That also means that it can be anything you want it to be. Full or extreme customizations are cool.
