All Japan Trial Championship】For the first time in history, an electric bike won the annual championship in the "IA Super" class! An electric bike wins the "IA Super" class annual championship. Yamaha's electric trial bike "TY-E 3.0" & Kenichi Kuroyama

On Sunday, November 2, 2025, the eighth and final round of the All Japan Trial Championship, City Trial Japan, was held. Kenichi Kuroyama of the "YAMAHA FACTORY RACING TEAM" riding the Yamaha Motor Co. electric trial bike "TY-E 3.0" took his fourth win of the season and became the first ever electric trial bike champion in the "IA Super" class, the highest class in Japan.

First ever champion in the "IA Super" class for an electric trial bike

At "City Trial Japan," the final round of the All Japan Trial Championships, Kenichi Kuroyama won the qualifying round, the semi-finals, and the finals in order, and in the finals, he and his teammate had a close battle to take his fourth win this season!　With this victory, Kuroyama became the first ever electric trial bike champion in the "IA Super" class and the first for Yamaha Motor Co. and Kuroyama in 13 years (since 2012), and the 12th all-Japan champion in total for Kuroyama.

History of the YAMAHA electric trial "TY-E

The "TY-E," the first generation of YAMAHA's electric trial bikes, was born in 2018 as part of research and development focused on a competition trial model to overcome the challenges of EV development: "high output, compact, and lightweight components" and "ease of operation that allows the rider to control the bike at will. In 2018 and 2019, in order to confirm the results of the development, Kuroyama and the team entered the "TRIAL E" class of the Trial World Championship, and after achieving 2nd place in the ranking for two consecutive years, the team suspended its activities. In 2022, he resumed development activities for the "TY-E" as one approach to achieving carbon neutrality. Based on the first generation, it was updated to "TY-E 2.0" and made a spot entry in the World Championship Trial 2. In the following year, 2023, in addition to the realization of carbon neutrality, "TY-E 2.1" and Kuroyama will be fully competing in IA Super, the pinnacle of all Japan, with the goal of accumulating technologies leading to an electric motorcycle with performance and fun that exceeds that of engine-powered vehicles, and winning the championship in 2025, three years later! The company has begun full-scale participation in IA Super, the pinnacle of all-Japan racing.

His first podium finish came in 2023, when he finished 2nd in the 4th round in Yuasa, Wakayama. In the following round in Hokkaido, "TY-E 2.2" was introduced, and Kuroyama achieved consecutive podium finishes through Round 7 to take 3rd place in the ranking. In 2024, with the addition of Masaya Ujikawa, the team became a two-car team, and Ujikawa took his first win in Round 3 at Motegi, followed by his second win in Round 4 at Wassamu, Hokkaido. Kuroyama also showed his success in the championship, finishing 2nd in the ranking, surpassing the previous year's result and coming in close to the engine cars. This year, the final year of the three-year plan, the new "TY-E 3.0" was introduced, and Ujikawa won the Round 2 event in Kusu, Oita. In Round 3 at Motegi, Kuroyama took his first win on an electric trial bike, followed by consecutive wins in Round 4 at Wassamu, Hokkaido. In Round 5 at Miyoshi Haizuka, Hiroshima, Fumitaka Nozaki on "TY-E 2.2" won, and in Round 6 at SUGO, Miyagi, Kuroyama took his third win of the season, making it five consecutive wins for the "TY-E". Kuroyama then took provisional 3rd place in Round 7 in Yuasa, Wakayama, and entered the final round at the top of the ranking. At the final round in City Trial Japan, he took his fourth win of the season and became the first ever champion in the "IA Super" class on an electric trial bike.

Personally, I am very happy that I was able to win the All-Japan championship in my third year of challenge with an electric trial bike. I owe this to the development members who are wearing this championship T-shirt. It is not about the riders, but it is really the love of the development members, because TY-E 3.0 would not have been possible if these development members had not worked and built the machine. Thank you very much. I don't know how many records I will be able to set next year and beyond, including consecutive victories, but I would like to continue riding Yamaha electric trial bikes next year and beyond, so please continue to support me, everyone. This was the third year for TY-E to compete in All-Japan, so we had a mission to win the championship this year. We were able to accomplish this thanks to all the competitors and the development team members who worked very hard. I am also very grateful to all the fans who supported us and waited for the riders until the very end, even after dark. I think everyone's support for the Yamaha riders led to this result. We have not yet announced what we are going to do in the future, but we will definitely do our best next year as well, so please continue to support us. Thank you very much for your support.
