Ducati Japan has launched a new model of its iconic Monster series, starting June 21, 2026 (Sunday). The Japanese market will feature the "Monster +" model, available in two color options: Ducati Red and Iceberg White.

The History and Evolution of the Monster: The "I M Legend" Concept

Since its groundbreaking debut at the 1992 Cologne Motor Show, the Monster has revolutionized motorcycling, carving out its own unique category. The fusion of a sports engine designed for road use, a chassis derived from superbikes, and a distinctive design profoundly impacted the motorcycle scene of the time, giving rise to a passionate fan community known as "Monsteristi." For over 30 years, from the original 900 and 600 to the latest generation, the Monster has continuously evolved while preserving the spirit of its inception.

The fifth-generation new Monster represents a significant transformation, both externally and internally, with a refreshed design, a newly developed V2 engine, and cutting-edge electronic control technology. However, the essence that the Monster has embodied for over 30 years – ease of use, agile handling, and pure riding enjoyment – remains unchanged. The concept "I M Legend" signifies a commitment to embracing evolution without fear, continuing to be a legend while honoring tradition.

Evolution in Design, Engine, and Advanced Technology

The new Monster features a design that blends a return to its origins with a forward-looking vision. While inheriting the philosophy of the original Monster, it incorporates advanced electronics and the latest design elements. The iconic "3-arch flyline" formed by the fuel tank, rider seat, and passenger seat remains, characterized by a muscular fuel tank that is 4kg lighter than the previous model. The front features double C-design headlights that pay homage to the Panigale V4, and traditional elements such as the short tail and single seat have been retained.

The engine is a newly developed 890cc V2 twin, the lightest in Ducati's history. It produces a maximum output of 111 hp and a maximum torque of 91.1 Nm, with a broad powerband delivering 70% of its peak torque from 3,000 rpm. The variable intake valve timing system achieves a balance of strong acceleration in the high-rpm range and smooth torque characteristics in the low to mid-rpm range. Four power modes and four riding modes allow riders to customize engine characteristics to their preferences.

The chassis boasts a class-leading dry weight of 175kg. It utilizes an aluminum monocoque frame derived from supersport models, ensuring agile and intuitive handling. Equipped with Showa upside-down front forks, Brembo brakes, and Pirelli Diablo Rosso 4 tires, it optimizes the balance between comfort and sporty performance. Electronic features include Ducati Quick Shift 2.0, a 5-inch color TFT display, and a full LED lighting system, combining a modern appearance with high safety standards.

The manufacturer's suggested retail price for the new Monster (+) is ¥1,690,000 for Ducati Red and ¥1,710,000 for Iceberg White. A sport color option, scheduled for release around Autumn 2026, will be priced at ¥1,790,000.

A special fair to commemorate the debut of the new Monster will be held at authorized Ducati dealerships nationwide from June 21, 2026 (Sunday) to July 20, 2026 (Monday). Visitors who test ride or receive a quote for the new Monster during the fair period will receive a Monster original mug cup and drip coffee.
