KTM Japan announced the release of the new supersport KTM 990 RC R for MY2026. The KTM 990 RC R will be launched in April 2026 at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of 2,219,000 yen (including 10% consumption tax), as an "RC" machine that aims to combine circuit and street riding, backed by the technology that was poured into the MotoGP project.

MotoGP-derived technology and 947cc LC8c produce 127.84 PS/103 Nm

The KTM 990 RC R is the company's first liter-class supersport model, born from KTM's accumulated data from research and development, aerodynamic data obtained from motorsports programs, and other technologies from years of racing activities. The body uses a specially designed, highly rigid steel frame and a swing arm that balances rigidity and moderate flexing, and is said to convey information from the tires through the movement of the vehicle body in a way that is easy to understand. The heart of the engine is a Euro 5+ compliant LC8c parallel twin. Lightweight and compact (57 kg engine unit), it produces 103 Nm of maximum torque and 127.84 PS of maximum output.

The 990 RC R, which caused a stir when it was unveiled at EICMA in the fall of 2024, has finally made its way to Japan.

This machine, a liter-class SS not in KTM's current lineup, is fully equipped like a GP machine!

Aero/braking/electronic controls are also well-equipped, and even practicality is taken into consideration.

Equipment includes aerodynamics derived from wind tunnel testing, Brembo "HyPure" brakes with 4-piston calipers, WP APEX suspension, and an 8.8-inch TFT full-color display. Ride modes RAIN, STREET, SPORT, and CUSTOM are displayed, and EBS comes standard with STREET, SPORT, SUPERMOTO+, and SUPERMOTO ABS modes. In addition, the optional TRACK PACK will offer TRACK mode, two CUSTOM modes, and telemetry functions such as lean angle and throttle opening, according to the company. Meanwhile, KTM's goal is to "offer a practical and attractive model for riders who want to get noticed on the street," while keeping race-origin specs at the forefront. The bike has a "ready-to-race" riding position, but can also be set up for long rides, with six ergonomically designed contact surfaces to support the knees, arms, and hands, and an adjustable footrest to accommodate a wide range of body sizes. The ergonomically designed six contact surfaces support the knees, arms, and hands. The fuel tank is 15.7 liters and the vehicle weight is approximately 184 kg.

8.An 8-inch wide monitor is important for visibility. It assists with complex electrical controls.

The compact parallel twin-cylinder engine delivers 127.84 PS. Combined with its light weight, high mobility is expected.

KTM's Riaan Neveling, Global Marketing Manager, explained the aim of introducing this model based on the recognition that "there was a lack of a model that would excite a specific group of riders" and that the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing He commented that the model is the fruit of the efforts put into the MotoGP project and the information and data accumulated by the R&D team. The release is scheduled for April 2026 at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of 2,219,000 yen. This new model is a must-see for riders who like extreme SS.
