Aged to Perfection: SUZUKI GSX-R1000 Custom by TG-RUN

TG-RUN's GSX-R1000

The GSX-R series is a core model for Suzuki. Including oil-cooled models, the GSX-R has undergone a series of model changes almost every year over the 35 years since the first-generation 750 came out in 1985. Moreover, the series has remained popular the whole time. Technical Garage RUN, who offer upgrades and complete customs with high quality parts to enhance performance and ride quality, specialize in GSX-R series bikes. The base bike for customization doesn't have to be new, and this one is a prime example of a used machine that was more than ready.

"This Suzuki GSX-R1000 is the latest in our series of complete upgrade customs. It's a K5, which means it's the 2005 model and is more than 15 years old. The GSX-R evolves every year, so there is a big difference in electronic control compared to the latest model, but the K5 does have notable characteristics like sharpness, simple turning, and power. Looking at this bike makes you realize how fine-tuned the controls are on the current model. So for this bike, we've made a handful of changes to remove imperfections for a higher quality ride. This K5 was purchased new and has only had one owner. So, we were able to hear the history of the bike straight from the owner himself and there were no problems," said Mr. Sugimoto, the representative of TG-RUN.

Unless the bike that's brought in is the latest model, the base for the complete upgrade will be a used vehicle, but even so it's always better to have a good base. This K5 had a good maintenance history since it was first purchased, and so the owner himself had unknowingly built up the qualities of a good base. Even though newer models have come out, he continued to ride this bike and now has decided to upgraded its qualities to make it more enjoyable in the future. He enjoyed it brand new and kept it's quality high through proper maintenance, making it the perfect base for customization. Now, he is ready to enjoy this fully customized ride for many years to come.

Handle

The top bridge with special cutouts is a TG-RUN original, and the titanium-coated windshield and silver carbon meter cover are by Magical Racing. The front master cylinder is a Brembo radial, and the wire clutch uses a ZETA lever.

Bodyworks

The seat has been replaced with a TG-RUN Sport & Comfort Seat. You can tell that this 15-year-old machine has been well maintained based on it's beautiful exterior, and TG-RUN definitely knows the importance of regular maintenance from their experience with many new and used Suzuki bikes.

Engine

With the exception of the K-FACTORY engine sliders, TG-RUN's original titanium filler cap, and βTitanium seat rail bolts, the engine is in stock condition inside and out. It has been kept in good condition through regular maintenance, including engine oil changes.

Intake & Exhaust

The full titanium exhaust is made by K-FACTORY, and the heat-colored blue matches the body color. The bolts have been changed to βTitanium.

Chassis

The step with 5 selectable positions and simple design is the TG-RUN Riding Step Kit. Operability is also excellent.

The front fork is an Ohlins inverted, and the radial-mounted 4-piston front brake calipers are Brembo GP4. The front discs use one-off attachments and are SUNSTAR Racing Discs in the style of the racers of yesteryear.

The swingarm is K5 stock and the wheels are Marchesini Forged Aluminum M10S. The size is set to 3.50-17/6.00-17, the same as stock.

The rear shocks are also replaced with Ohlins, and the inner fender is made by Magical Racing. The rear brake caliper is Brembo CNC, 2-piston mounted with a TG-RUN support, and the brake disc is SUNSTAR. The Racing Stand Hooks are by K-FACTORY.
