Lucia Menendez, who is active as an FI Application Engineer at Honda HRC participating in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK), spoke about her career and the importance of data analysis.
From Moto2 to WorldSBK: In Charge of ECU Strategy at the Dream Team, Honda
Lucia Menendez, FI Application Engineer at Honda HRC in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK), is responsible for strategy management within the ECU. Her role involves managing critical areas directly linked to machine performance, such as engine braking, torque, traction, and wheelie control.
She joined Honda in 2022 after three years of experience in the Spanish Championship, European Championship, and Moto2 World Championship. The transition from a Moto2 prototype machine to a production-based superbike provided a significant learning opportunity. She is now in her fifth season in the WorldSBK paddock.
Utilizing Big Data and as a Role Model for the Next Generation
The importance of electronic control and data in modern racing is increasing year by year. To effectively manage the vast amount of data, Menendez obtained a master's degree in Big Data and Data Science last year. She stated, "The amount of data is increasing incredibly, and those who can manage it will continue to play a role in the future of the sport," demonstrating her commitment to continuous growth.
She also touched upon the low number of women in technical roles. When she was a student, there were only four women in a class of 90. Based on her own experience of not having female role models as a child, she emphasizes the importance of showing young women the possibilities of working in the motorsport industry. She also balances her life as a mother with her racing activities, embodying a diverse approach to work.
