Updates to Various Parts Reflecting Racing Feedback
Debuting as Ducati's first motocrosser, the "Desmo450 MX" is a competition-only model equipped with a 449.6cc Desmodromic single-cylinder engine. It produces a maximum output of 63.5cv/9,400rpm and a maximum torque of 53.5Nm/7,500rpm, housed in an aluminum twin-spar frame. Details of the new motocrosser were announced in May 2025, and development has progressed through racing activities.
For the 2027 model, numerous updates have been made based on racing experience. The fuel tank cap has been enlarged to 40mm for faster refueling, and the rear sprocket has been changed to 51 teeth to improve response when exiting corners. Additionally, the tip shapes of the shift and brake pedals have been revised to improve operability. The bike now features new Pirelli Scorpion MX32 tires.
Improvements have also been made in terms of durability, including a review of starter motor gear tolerances and the adoption of Teflon-coated water pump oil seals. Components such as the exhaust manifold, fork guards, and engine mounts have also been reinforced. Furthermore, a predictive maintenance system has been introduced that suggests maintenance intervals based on actual usage via a Wi-Fi module.
Electronic controls are also comprehensive, featuring Ducati Traction Control (DTC) developed specifically for motocross, as well as Power Launch, Quick Shift, and Engine Brake Control. It comes with two power modes and two riding modes, with settings customizable via the optional X-Link app.
Evolution of the Factory Specification with More Practical Equipment
The high-end "Desmo450 MX Factory" model features further weight reduction and performance enhancements in addition to the standard model's upgrades. While the 2026 model release was reported in January 2026, this 2027 model continues that high level of combativeness.
Exclusive equipment for the factory specification includes an Akrapovic full-titanium exhaust that achieves a 1.7kg weight reduction, and Showa suspension with Dark Kashima coating and TiO super finish. Billet aluminum triple clamps, a holeshot device, front disc guard, skid plate, and RK MXU O-ring chain are also standard equipment.
Additionally, the factory specification comes standard with a Wi-Fi module, allowing for detailed customization of riding modes such as engine response, launch control, engine braking, and traction control using the X-Link app.
Details regarding the release of these two bikes in Japan have not been disclosed, and we await further updates.
