In this project, we pick up and introduce a bike that catches our eye from the MY BIKES posted on the Webike Community. This time, we're featuring the HONDA "CB400SS," owned by "ryouhei.".

The Honda CB400SS is a naked model equipped with an air-cooled single-cylinder engine that debuted in 2001. It was characterized by its simple body structure and classical styling, and its appeal lay in its ease of handling, making it enjoyable for a wide range of uses, from daily commuting to touring. Starting with the initial model that only had kick-start, convenience was improved with the later addition of a cell starter. Although it is no longer in production, it continues to attract strong support from riders who prefer the unique vibration of an air-cooled single-cylinder engine and its simple structure. It remains a popular model in the used market due to its orthodox charm.

The owner, ryouhei, switched to this CB400SS from a large motorcycle due to a decline in physical strength. Despite being aware of the maintenance involved with carbureted vehicles, they purchased it attracted by the motorcycle-like air-cooled engine, the appearance of the spoke wheels, and above all, its light weight. You can feel their attitude of enjoying their motorcycle life at their own pace.

■Reason for Purchase, Usage, Compared Models

I switched from a large motorcycle due to a decline in physical strength.
It's a carbureted (older model) bike, so I expected a lot of maintenance, but I bought it knowing that.

■Strengths

Above all, its light weight – isn't it the lightest 400cc naked bike?
Appearance: Motorcycle-like air-cooled engine and spoke wheels
The engine vibration is low, making it easy to use up to high RPMs.
Since it's a carbureted model, power-up can be expected depending on tuning.
Comes with a cell starter.

■Weaknesses

The engine sound is a loud "hyururu" noise, so you have to install a loud muffler to drown it out.
Half of the genuine parts are discontinued.

■Advice for Future Buyers

For those who understand that half of the genuine parts are discontinued.
Compared to the popular SR400, it's a less common bike, so you won't see many others like it.
