On July 4, 2026, Ducati unveiled the prototype of its first race-oriented supermotard, the "Desmo450 SM." This model is powered by a 449.6cc single-cylinder engine derived from their motocross model. The official announcement of the production model, along with detailed specifications and pricing, is scheduled for mid-September 2026.

449.6cc Desmo Single-Cylinder Engine, Inherited from Motocrosser, Completely Redesigned for Supermoto

The Desmo450 SM is a prototype vehicle that was first unveiled on stage at "World Ducati Week 2026," held at the Misano World Circuit in Italy on July 4, 2026. It is Ducati's first race-oriented supermotard and features the company's signature desmodromic (forced closing) valve mechanism.

The power unit is a 449.6cc DOHC liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, inherited from the preceding motocross model, the "Desmo450 MX." While the MX specification produces a maximum output of 62.6ps and a maximum torque of approximately 53.5Nm, this model has undergone a complete redesign, including internal engine components and gear ratios, for supermoto competition on short circuits.

Targeting the "S1 GP" World Championship with Class-Leading Lightweight Design and Standard Slick Tires

The suspension system features manually adjustable front and rear units, with the front equipped with long-stroke Showa forks. The braking system includes a single Galfer wave disc on the front.

A key feature is the standard fitment of Metzeler "Racetec SM" slick tires, a unique specification for a production Ducati model. The wheels are equipped with Takasago Excel spoked rims, and the overall design is a traditional supermotard style, complete with a single exhaust that sweeps upwards to the right and handguards.

Ducati has stated that this model will be the lightest in its class and is being developed as a racing model that meets the eligibility requirements for the premier class of the Supermoto World Championship, "S1 GP." The vehicle weight, price, and release dates in various countries are expected to be revealed at the official announcement in mid-September.
