Yamaha Vietnam has announced the new "Exciter 155 VVA-TCS" model to commemorate the 20th anniversary of its sporty underbone bike, the Exciter. It is equipped with a 155cc Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) engine, inherited from the supersport YZF-R15, and newly adopts a Traction Control System (TCS) and ABS for improved safety. Evolved with New Traction Control and ABS
The Yamaha Exciter is a very popular model in Southeast Asia. The 2026 model marks the 8th model change, with significant enhancements to its design and electronic controls.
The Exciter, which has led the sports underbone category in the Vietnamese market since its debut in 2006, has undergone a significant evolution to mark its 20th anniversary. The new "Exciter 155 VVA-TCS" combines its traditional excellent handling performance with advanced electronic control technology, achieving both class-leading safety and riding enjoyment.
The biggest highlight is the adoption of the Traction Control System (TCS) for the first time in a Yamaha underbone model. This system suppresses rear-wheel slippage on slippery surfaces and during acceleration, providing the rider with a high sense of security.
Furthermore, the front is equipped with ABS, combining a 2-piston caliper with a 267mm diameter disc. This significantly enhances braking stability on wet roads and during emergency braking.
The power unit is a 155cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, the same type used in the supersport "YZF-R15." By employing the Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) system, it achieves flat and strong torque characteristics across the entire rev range.
The compression ratio has been optimized to 11.6:1, delivering a maximum output of 18.5 PS. Additionally, changes to the secondary reduction gear ratio (increasing the rear sprocket size from 46T to 48T) have improved acceleration performance, particularly in higher gear ranges.
It is paired with a 6-speed transmission featuring an assist & slipper clutch, which reduces rear-wheel hopping during downshifts. A newly designed "Sound Booster" that produces a sporty intake sound has also been added, enhancing the riding exhilaration with an exciting intake sound at high RPMs.
Although it's a practical underbone, the engine is shared with the YZF-R15. It features VVA and a 6-speed transmission.
Digital technology has also been integrated, with the inclusion of the "Y-Connect" smartphone integration feature. Through a dedicated app, users can access functions such as vehicle location tracking, maintenance reminders, and a "Rev's Dashboard" that displays real-time tachometer and throttle opening.
The instrument panel features a multi-function digital meter for intuitive confirmation of riding data. The exterior design adopts the "Downforce Movement" concept, inspired by MotoGP machines. The front mask incorporates stabilizers for efficient airflow, a sports screen, and LED position lights designed to resemble a predator's eyes, creating an aggressive styling.
Expressing its potential for sporty riding, the front mask has been transformed into a sharp design with a premium feel.
