Lighter and Easier to Handle: MT-09 Custom

Shabon Dama's MT-09

The Yamaha MT-09 was released in 2014 as a sport model that combines a well-balanced parallel 3-cylinder 845cc engine with an aluminum die-cast frame, providing a feeling of agility similar to that of a motard bike. Since its relesase, it has already achieved excellent performance through various specification changes, but this custom by Shabon Dama aims to take it even further. It is based on the '21 MT-09 SP which incorporates DLC processed inner tubes of the KYB front forks and an Ohlins shock on the rear.

Stock MT-09 SP is designed to be lightweight like an off-road model, and the power of its 3-cylinder engine is significant. However, just as the basic performance has evolved, so have the aftermarket parts, which can make the bike even lighter and improve the touch of the controls. This custom focuses on such aspects. The front master cylinder has been replaced with a GALE SPEED's VRE, and the handlebar has also been changed. The brake calipers are GALE SPEED's radial mount. Additionally, the wheels have been replaced with ROTOBOX carbon wheels, contributing to weight reduction. By improving the touch of the controls, lightness, and overall appearance, the bike provides a satisfying ownership experience. This custom reflects these aspects perfectly.

Handle

The tapered handlebar is replaced with a lightweight, high-strength Dimotiv DI-28H90W725-CN made of carbon steel with a carbon pattern.

The front master is a GALE SPEED's VRE with pivot pins made of titanium by Shabon Dama. Motogadget's blinkers are mounted on the bar ends.

The clutch holder is also converted to GALE SPEED's. It is regular care by Shabon Dama to match not only the functionality but also the color (in this case, black in color).

Electrical

The rear blinkers are organized using sided license plate holder by ACTIVE. The bodyworks and black frame are stock.

Chassis

The footpegs have also been replaced with black ones from AGRAS. The use of an aluminum billet base plate and step bars increases rigidity and provides a direct feel when operating them.

The DLC-coated Φ41mm inverted KYB front forks are stock. The front brake caliper is a GALE SPEED radial 4P, and the front disc is one-off by PLUS M.

The rear brake, Ohlins rear shock, and aluminum swingarm are stock. The exhaust has been replaced with a titanium one to reduce weight.

The wheels are BULLET (front: 3.50-17 / rear: 6.00-17) by a slovenian wheel manufacturer ROTOBOX, made of the chopped carbon and woven carbon seamless hybrid monocoque.
