At the YOKOHAMA HOT ROD CUSTOM SHOW, there was one vehicle that caught the eye not for its showiness but for its appearance: the BMW R100/7 "Tsurugi" by MOTOR FORCE. The more you look at the details, the more you can quietly feel the density and intent. In this issue, we would like to introduce a custom vehicle with this charm.

What is the BMW R100/7?

The BMW R100/7 was based on the 1977 BMW R100/7, an air-cooled, OHV boxer twin engine model that retains BMW's typical rigid and solid design philosophy. Although it is not a model that is associated with showy decoration, the frame, engine, and suspension are highly finished, and as a custom base, it is known as a vehicle in which the "quality of the materials" is questioned. What MOTOR FORCE has been advocating is customization that accentuates the original appeal of the base vehicle, rather than full-scratch remodeling. This philosophy and the qualities of the R100/7 were an inevitable match.

The concept is "Tsurugi" (sword)

The concept name of this model is "Tsurugi," a sword, and its production started on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of MOTOR FORCE's foundation. The front mask was reconstructed based on the motif of BMW's traditional kidney grille. The front mask is based on BMW's traditional kidney grille motif, and the form of the face is reminiscent of a kendo "mask," creating a look that is both German and Japanese in its tension. The fact that the Japanese motif is not directly asserted, but rather is felt through the form and balance, shows the pride of the craftsman. A sculptural beauty sharpened by subtraction.

At first glance, a custom sword is very quiet. However, this quietness is not due to a lack of information. Rather, it is the accumulation of "only the inevitable" that remains after the unnecessary lines have been thoroughly eliminated. The lines that run from the tank to the seat and tail are not broken at all, and the relationship with the engine and suspension is extremely well organized. The absence of showy processing and excessive assertiveness makes the texture of the materials, the connection of the surfaces, and the beauty of the dimensions stand out. This is a level of perfection that cannot be achieved in a short period of time, but is the result of experience and time.

Why the product was recognized around the world and came to fruition in Yokohama

Tsurugi's products have been highly acclaimed overseas, including at the Bike Shed Show in London. The reason for this is clear. This bike has "persuasive power of modeling" that does not depend on trends or nationality. And at the YOKOHAMA HOT ROD CUSTOM SHOW, it was awarded the Craft of Speed's Pick in addition to the Best of Cafe Racer. This is not merely a category recognition, but proof that the bike was chosen as one that embodies the "craftsmanship and aesthetics that reside in speed culture. The combination of the tension that evokes driving and the craftsmanship that resides in the details is what Tsurugi appreciated. The combination of these two qualities is the main reason why the Tsurugi was selected for this award.

A car that continues to run as part of the culture

The mechanical beauty of BMW is superimposed on Japanese aesthetics. The "Tsurugi" from MOTOR FORCE is a monumental show bike, but at the same time, it is a bike that "continues to be driven as part of the culture. There is certainly a reason why this bike will never fade away, even if times and places change. Instagram "Single Cylinder for Everyone" https://www.instagram.com/minnano_tankito
