The 8th round of MotoGP, the Hungarian GP, was held at the Balaton Park Circuit in Hungary from June 5 to 7. Ai Ogura (Aprilia), the only Japanese rider competing in the premier class, finished 4th in the final race following the previous round in Italy. Marc Marquez (Ducati) won the race. This victory was Marc Marquez's 100th win in all classes and the 100th win for the Ducati factory team.

Ogura finishes 4th after starting from 11th on the first lap

The Hungarian GP was held at the Balaton Park Circuit, located about 100 km from Budapest, the capital of Hungary, a new circuit that opened in 2023 and hosted the first MotoGP race in 2025. Ai Ogura (Aprilia) qualified 10th and started from the fourth row. In Saturday's sprint race, she lost a position on the first lap and finished 11th. In the following race on Sunday, a multiple crash occurred at the first corner right after the start: Jorge Martin (APRILIA) lost his balance under braking at the first corner and hit his teammate Marco Beczecki (APRILIA) who was in front, and the two crashed further Fabio Di Gianantonio (Ducati), Fermin Aldeguer (Ducati), and Raul Fernandez (Aprilia) were also involved. The accident caused Martin, Beczecki, Aldeghel, and Fernandez to retire. Aprilia had three retirements except for Ogura. Martin and Beczecki were examined at the medical center, but according to information from the team, no fractures were confirmed for either of them. In today's MotoGP class, where starts are becoming more and more important, the battle for the first corner is fierce. In addition, Bagnoia, who finished third this time, said in an interview in parc ferme that "the first corner was very slippery. Ogura was slightly behind Martin and his teammates when the accident occurred at the first corner, and was not involved in the accident. However, he had to take evasive action because of the multiple crashes that occurred right in front of him. Ogura finished the first lap in 11th position. From the beginning to the middle of the race, he was running in 8th to 7th position. Then, in the second half of the race, Ogura still began to improve his position. Ogura's strength lies in his pace in the latter half of the race, when he is able to run faster than his competitors. This time, he showed it again. Ogura moved up to 5th on lap 17, and with two laps to go he caught Luca Marini in the Honda in front of him and moved up to 4th. At this point, he was about five seconds behind Bagnoia, who was running in third. Although he did not have enough laps to make the podium, Ogura finished about 4 seconds ahead of Bagnoia. As a side note, when he finished 4th in the previous round in Italy, Bagnoia was also in 3rd place. The difference between the two was 0.034 seconds.

The Hungarian GP was a one-on-one battle between Marquez and up-and-coming rider Pedro Acosta (KTM). In fact, Acosta was leading the race until lap 14. However, Marquez was running in second place, controlling a gap of about 0.7 seconds. This was because running second for so long with Acosta so close would affect the front tire pressure and temperature. Acosta showed some determination when Marquez tried to pass Acosta on lap 15, but Marquez and the Ducati package prevailed here. Marquez ultimately won the race by more than a second over second-place Acosta. In the Hungarian GP, championship leader Beczecki and second-place finisher Martin both retired from the race. Di Giannantonio, third in the championship, finished the race in 12th place after a crash at the first corner. Marquez's win moves him up to 5th in the championship, 72 points behind the leader, and closes the gap to the front runners. The next round, the Czech Grand Prix, will be held at the Brno Circuit in the Czech Republic from June 19 to 21.
