[MotoGP] British Grand Prix Qualifying: Jorge Martín Takes Pole Position with Course Record! Ai Ogura Third as Aprilias Lock Out the Front Row

The MotoGP British Grand Prix qualifying session took place, with Jorge Martín securing pole position by setting a new course record of 1 minute 56.160 seconds. Raúl Fernández took second place, followed by Ai Ogura in third, resulting in an Aprilia lockout of the front row.

Fierce Battle Breaks Course Record! Martín Claims Pole by 0.021 Seconds

In the Q2 qualifying session for the British Grand Prix, the first race after the summer break, a fierce attack battle unfolded with the top position changing hands rapidly towards the end. Marc Márquez initially took the lead, followed by Marco Bezzecchi and Raúl Fernández, who successively broke the course record in a heated exchange.

Amidst this intense competition, Jorge Martín posted the fastest time. Martín demonstrated a riding style that saw him improve his best time in each sector, recording a 1 minute 56.160 seconds and overtaking Fernández by a mere 0.021 seconds. This performance secured Martín pole position and rewrote the course record at Silverstone.

Fernández secured second place with a time of 1 minute 56.181 seconds, and his teammate Ai Ogura took third. As a result, the front row was occupied by Martín, Fernández, and Ogura, with Aprilia machines filling the top three spots.

The top six riders in the championship points standings also secured the top six grid positions. Fabio Di Giannantonio finished fourth, Bezzecchi fifth, and Marc Márquez sixth, all clustered at the front for the main race.

Upset from Q1 and Grid Positions Determined by Notable Riders

The Q1 qualifying session also featured a high-caliber lineup, with four past Silverstone winners in contention. Franco Morbidelli and Iker Lecuona, who participated as a substitute rider, emerged victorious from the fierce competition to advance to Q2. Fabio Quartararo narrowly missed out on Q2, finishing 0.050 seconds behind Lecuona and will start from 13th position.

Lecuona, who advanced to Q2, put in a commendable performance to secure the 10th grid spot. Jack Miller qualified 11th, achieving the highest grid position for a Yamaha rider. Among the Honda contingent, Joan Mir qualified 12th, and Luca Marini secured 15th.

On the other hand, Francesco Bagnaia, a past winner at Silverstone, struggled to find pace and ended up in 16th position. Cal Crutchlow, racing as a substitute for Johann Zarco, will start from 20th, Pol Espargaró, substituting for Maverick Viñales, will start 21st, and Toprak Razgatlıoğlu will begin the race from 22nd.
