Possibility of Introduction to Japan?! Air-cooled Single-Cylinder "XR300L / XR300 Rally"
While the world launch of the air-cooled 501cc single-cylinder "CB500," a 500cc version of the GB350, was the most anticipated announcement, this model will be of particular interest to off-road enthusiasts. The legendary "XR" trail bike from Honda's past is being introduced to the Indian market as the "XR300L" and "XR300 Rally," powered by a 300cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine.
The base model appears to be the "XR300L Tornado" sold in South American markets like Brazil, and it is equipped with the same 293.5cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine. Notably, it features an oil cooler, which is not present on the South American version, and an exhaust system resembling a two-stroke expansion chamber, likely adapted to comply with India's latest emission standards, "BS6."
BS6 standards are significantly stricter than those in Brazil and other regions, and are closer to the "Euro 5" emission standards in Japan and Europe. While a 300cc displacement might seem somewhat niche for the Japanese market, the standard equipment of front and rear ABS significantly lowers the hurdle for a potential domestic introduction of an "air-cooled XR."
The XR300L is designed as a lightweight and easy-to-handle trail bike for everyday use, while the Rally version is an off-road tourer equipped with a larger fuel tank. Both models feature LED headlights, telescopic forks, a linkage-type rear suspension, ABS, and traction control, with wheel sizes of 21 inches front and 18 inches rear. The Rally model also boasts a color TFT LCD meter, Honda RoadSync smartphone connectivity, a large windscreen, and an extended-range fuel tank. HMSI has provided the following details on the characteristics of both models:
The XR300L is on the right and the XR300 Rally is on the left. A characteristic of the Rally is that the headlight area is frame-mounted.
The exhaust system differs from the South American specification. The bulge resembling a 2-stroke expansion chamber is believed to contain a catalytic converter. An oil cooler is also located within the shrouds.

ADV160 is India's First E85 Fuel Compatible Model, E-Clutch Versions of Rebel 300/500 Also Introduced
Additionally, the adventure scooter "ADV160," popular in Japan, will also be introduced to the Indian market. A notable feature is that its 160cc liquid-cooled engine will be the first Honda scooter in India to be compatible with E85 (85% ethanol blend) fuel.
Furthermore, the new family-oriented electric scooter "QC3" has been unveiled. It is equipped with a 3kWh battery, boasts a range of 151km on a single charge, and can be charged to 80% in 2 hours and 40 minutes. It also features a smart key and a 5-inch TFT LCD meter.
In the cruiser segment, the 286cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder "Rebel 300" and the 471cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin "Rebel 500" will be introduced. Both models will be available with an E-Clutch specification, with the E-Clutch version of the Rebel 500, powered by a parallel-twin engine, making its debut.
The release dates and prices for each of these models will be announced sequentially upon their official introduction.
The ADV160 for the Indian market will be introduced as Honda's first E85 fuel-compatible scooter in the country.
For Honda, India is the Most Important Global Market
All of the models announced by HMSI this time, including the CB500, are locally produced. The aim is to further deepen the localization of product development and manufacturing in India, thereby enhancing competitiveness within the Indian market and expanding access to Honda's global technologies.
Tsutomu Otani, President and CEO of HMSI, emphasized that India is one of Honda's most important global markets. He outlined a strategy to address local infrastructure conditions and diverse customer needs through a multi-pathway approach combining advanced internal combustion engine vehicles, electric mobility, and flex-fuel technology.
