[New Models] Yamaha Unveils the 2027 YZ Series, Including the “YZ250F”! The 250F Features a New Engine for the First Time in Eight Years

Yamaha Motor Sales will begin rolling out seven 2027 models from its “YZ Series” of motocross bikes starting September 25. In particular, the “YZ250F” features a new engine—the first in eight years—which has significantly enhanced its performance.

Based on the concept “All we make for your FASTER,” the 2027 “YZ250F” is equipped with a brand-new engine—the first in eight years—that boosts power and torque across the entire rpm range. Combined with a frame designed for superior control and based on the latest “YZ450F,” it delivers race-winning performance.

The new engine achieves higher redline speeds through a revamped intake system, raising the redline by 700 rpm. It also strikes a balance with optimized intake port shapes and an increased compression ratio (from 13.8 to 14.1).The exhaust system also features newly designed valve springs that improve valve operation stability. A hydraulic clutch is employed to reduce lever operating force and provide a smooth engagement feel. The frame is shared with the “YZ450F,” balancing stability and cornering performance.

The front and rear suspension systems are based on the same components as the “YZ450F” but feature settings specific to the “YZ250F”; the rear suspension incorporates a new base valve. This improves road-following performance and delivers excellent shock absorption and comfort.The rear brake system has been lightened by 180g through measures such as a smaller-diameter disc, delivering linear control.

The “YZ85” series balances ease of handling with competitive performance

The “YZ85LW” and “YZ85” feature detailed updates to both the engine and chassis, enhancing their racing performance while reducing running costs and simplifying maintenance. By increasing riding opportunities, they contribute to the development of young riders.

The engine improves drivability across the entire rpm range through the synergistic effects of adopting the MotoTassinari “VFORCE-4R” reed valve, enlarging the air filter intake, and increasing the flywheel mass. The expanded power band reduces the need for frequent clutch operation and shifting, providing an easier riding experience.The clutch features revised friction materials and an added judder spring, while the transmission ensures reliability through surface treatment modifications on frequently used gears.

The clutch and transmission that support sharp acceleration

The main frame has been modified—with changes to bracket shapes and plate thickness—to improve handling stability and reliability. This enhances the sense of road contact during cornering and under high loads.Maintainability has also been improved: front wheel bearings have been replaced with oil-sealed versions to enhance rust resistance, and the length of bolts for exterior parts has been standardized to facilitate servicing. Weight reduction has also been prioritized.

YZ125 Monster Energy Edition (2027)

All models feature a color scheme based on Racing Blue combined with graphics that convey a sense of speed. Additionally, the “YZ250F” and “YZ125” will be available in a “Monster Energy Edition” that replicates the color scheme of overseas factory machines.Pre-orders will be accepted for a limited time from June 18 to November 29, 2026, at authorized Yamaha off-road competition model dealers.
