Honda Establishes New Production Line at Tapukara Plant in India, Increasing Annual Production Capacity to Over 2 Million Units

Honda's Indian two-wheeler subsidiary, HMSI, has announced the establishment of a third production line at its Tapukara plant in Rajasthan. Aiming for operation to commence in 2028, the company will invest approximately 15 billion Indian Rupees to add a production capacity of 670,000 units per year, thereby responding to the rapidly growing demand in the Indian market.

Tapukara Plant's Annual Production Capacity to Increase to 2.01 Million Units

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI), Honda's subsidiary for two-wheeler production and sales in India, has decided to install a new third production line to expand the production capacity of its Tapukara plant located in Alwar district, Rajasthan.

This new line is scheduled to commence operations in 2028 and is expected to have an annual production capacity of 670,000 units. This will significantly increase the plant's total annual production capacity to 2.01 million units.

With this expansion, HMSI will invest approximately 15 billion Indian Rupees to establish a flexible production system for scooters and commuter motorcycle models. Furthermore, this enhancement is expected to create over 2,000 new jobs. The Tapukara plant began operations in 2011 and has continued to grow while advancing automation and efficiency.

Total Production Capacity in India to Reach 8 Million Units by FY2028

HMSI currently operates four manufacturing plants in India, with a current total annual production capacity of 6.25 million units. Since commencing operations in 2001, the company has a track record of producing over 70 million two-wheelers.

The company continues to strengthen its production network, having announced in May 2025 the addition of a fourth production line at its Vithalapur plant in Gujarat. This line is progressing as planned towards its scheduled commencement of operations in 2027.

By including the new line at the Tapukara plant and the expansion plans at other factories, HMSI's total annual production capacity will expand from the current 6.25 million units to approximately 8 million units by FY2028. This will enable the company to respond even more swiftly to the diverse two-wheeler demands within India.

Furthermore, in line with Honda's goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, sustainable initiatives such as the introduction of solar power generation, water conservation, and recycling activities will be promoted across the entire plant.
