【MotoGP】Daniel Öncü to Compete in Top Class with Ducati from 2027! Teaming Up with Joan Mir at Gresini Racing

Daniel Öncü (Spain), currently contending for the top spot in Moto2, has officially decided to move up to the premier MotoGP class starting in the 2027 season with the "BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP" team. He will ride a Ducati machine, challenging the new era with the introduction of the 850cc engine regulations.

Daniel Öncü Challenges the Top Class with Ducati

Daniel Öncü, who is currently in a title fight in the Moto2 class, has confirmed his move to the MotoGP class starting in the 2027 season, joining the "BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP" team. Öncü will take his first step into the MotoGP class riding a Ducati machine.

Öncü won the Moto3 Junior World Championship in 2021 and began competing full-time in the Moto3 class in 2022. In 2023, he achieved his first victory in the opening round and finished 5th overall for the season. In 2024, he secured a podium finish eight times and ranked 2nd. He stepped up to Moto2 in 2025, recording two wins as a rookie, and is currently engaged in a fierce title battle in the 2026 season, including a victory at the Brazilian GP.

Gresini will undergo a complete team overhaul for the 2027 season. With Alex Márquez and Fermín Aldeguer leaving the team at the end of the current season, the 2020 MotoGP Champion Joan Mir has been confirmed as Öncü's partner. This combination of the experienced veteran Mir and the rising star Öncü will usher in the new era of 850cc regulations.

Significant attention is also being paid to David Alonso, who has been fiercely competing in Moto2, for the Rookie of the Year battle in the top class. Öncü is scheduled to ride a MotoGP machine for the first time at the Valencia test after the season concludes.
