Vespa and the Italian Navy Sailing Ship "Amerigo Vespucci" Co-star in New York! Unveiling of a One-of-a-Kind Special Edition Model

The Piaggio Group unveiled a one-of-a-kind Vespa in New York, paying homage to the Italian Navy's training frigate, the "Amerigo Vespucci." It will be displayed at the pier where the ship is docked, in anticipation of the "Sail4th250" celebration commemorating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.

Two Icons of Italy Co-star in New York

Two of Italy's most beloved icons have met for the first time in New York Harbor. Ahead of the national celebration "Sail4th250," commemorating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, a special Vespa was unveiled alongside the historic Italian Navy training frigate "Amerigo Vespucci" docked at the pier.

Launched in 1931, the Amerigo Vespucci is the Italian Navy's longest-serving training frigate and is considered one of the most beautiful ships in the world. The Vespa, born in 1946, has been conveying Italian style and technology globally for 80 years. These two entities, as symbols of culture, have merged on the grounds of New York.

Special Design and Materials Recreating the Frigate's Details

The one-of-a-kind Vespa unveiled this time incorporates the design elements of the Amerigo Vespucci throughout. Its glossy black steel body features two white stripes, and graphics reminiscent of the ship's portholes on its upper deck are depicted. Furthermore, accents in ochre, inspired by the ship's bulwarks, are applied under the seat and on the upper part of the fender.

The "Clavettino," the front horn cover, is finished in the same color scheme as the ship's bowsprit. On the left side of the front shield, an official graphic is placed, featuring the ship with its sails unfurled and the Italian Tricolore. Additionally, the seat is upholstered with "Orona Canvas," a natural hemp fiber actually used in the Vespucci's sails, resulting in an elegant finish.
