In this series, our editorial team selects one “MY Bike” post from the Webike Community each week to feature. This time, we’re highlighting a Honda “NSR80” owned by “Anonymous User.”
NSR80 (80cc) Owner: Anonymous User
Since its debut in 1987, the NSR80 has gained popularity in mini-bike racing and on the streets thanks to the sharp acceleration and nimble handling unique to two-stroke engines. Its race-inspired styling and authentic chassis design captured the hearts of young people at the time.In particular, the “brutal acceleration when hitting that signature two-stroke power band”—achieved by optimizing the exhaust chamber and intake/exhaust ports—is the NSR80’s defining feature and continues to captivate many riders. However, due to its peaky characteristics, it also requires a certain level of skill to handle in city traffic. Now that it’s out of production, the value of well-maintained models is rising year by year due to their rarity, and there are plenty of fans on the hunt for one.
While comparing it to modern 125cc models like the GSX-R125, YZF-R125, XSR125, and CB125R, he happened to come across this NSR80 at a dealership.Driven by a strong conviction that “if I don’t buy it now, I’ll never find another one at this price,” he decided to purchase it, influenced by its price—which was lower than the market average—the presence of a shop specializing in two-stroke bikes, and the bike’s rarity. The owner, an “anonymous user,” seems very satisfied with this NSR80’s sharp acceleration, nimble handling, and excellent ground clearance.

■Reasons for Purchase, Intended Use, and Comparable Models
I was thinking of buying something like a GSX-R125, YZF-R125, XSR125, or CB125R when I came across this one at the shop. Given its price—lower than the market average—the fact that the shop specializes in 2-stroke bikes, its reputation for reliability, and the bike’s rarity, I figured that if I didn’t buy it now, I’d never find another one at this price again.
■Pros
Insane acceleration when it hits that power band unique to 2-strokes. Lightweight chassis. Good ground clearance.
■Weaknesses
If it doesn’t start on the first try with the kickstarter, the spark plug can get flooded, making it hard to start. If you don’t shift up at 5,000 rpm or higher, it’ll flood, and power drops after shifting. For smooth, low-vibration city riding, keep it between 6,000 and 8,000 rpm; above 8,000 rpm, the revs shoot straight up past 10,000.Although fuel economy suffers, riding in the 8,000–10,000 rpm range might actually be better for the engine’s health. It requires very precise control of the RPM, which can be a bit tiring.
■ Advice for Prospective Buyers
Before buying, make sure to check if the shop will cover the engine if it fails.
It’s even better if you can fix it yourself. Since parts are becoming scarce, you should stock up on them.
■Future Customization Plans
Air cleaner, big carb
