New 3.5-inch color LCD meter and E-Clutch introduced
Honda has announced the 2027 model of its cruiser, the "CMX500 Rebel," in Europe. Since its debut in 2017, the model has gained support, particularly among the younger generation, and has been a bestseller in the European custom category since 2021. This update incorporates new equipment to further enhance daily usability and comfort.
The biggest highlight is the introduction of "Honda E-Clutch" technology, which allows for starting, stopping, and shifting gears without operating the clutch lever. The system controls ignition timing and fuel injection based on parameters such as vehicle speed, throttle opening, and engine RPM to achieve smooth gear changes. Riders can select the shift pedal resistance from three levels: "HARD," "MEDIUM," and "SOFT." It also includes a feature that prompts the rider to downshift via a symbol on the meter if the bike is in a high gear at a specific speed. Even while the system is active, the rider can still perform manual clutch operations by grabbing the clutch lever.
In terms of equipment, the traditional 100mm negative LCD meter has been replaced by a new 3.5-inch circular full-color TFT display. Consequently, the left handlebar switch has been changed from a 4-button to a 6-button module, allowing for more intuitive operation. It also features Roadsync for smartphone connectivity and HISS (Honda Ignition Security System).
The 471cc liquid-cooled parallel twin-cylinder engine has a bore and stroke of 67mm x 66.8mm and a compression ratio of 10.7, producing a maximum output of 34kW at 8,500rpm and a maximum torque of 43.3Nm at 6,000rpm. The internal structure has been refined, utilizing roller rocker arms and shim-type valve clearance adjustment to achieve weight reduction and friction reduction. Furthermore, the piston skirts feature added striations for improved lubrication, and the silent cam chain pins have undergone vanadium treatment. It comes standard with an assist & slipper clutch, and the 120mm diameter shotgun-style muffler produces a signature cruiser sound.
New Brown and Red colors added; Standard and S Edition available
Regarding the chassis, the seat height is kept low at 690mm, maintaining ease of handling. The wheelbase is 1490mm, the caster angle is 28 degrees, and the trail is 110mm, providing a natural and comfortable riding position. The suspension features 41mm telescopic forks with 121mm of travel in the front, and nitrogen-charged twin shocks with 5-step preload adjustment in the rear, with improved ride comfort due to a change in the bump stop rubber shape. The tire sizes are 130/90-16 for the front and 150/80-16 for the rear.
The 2027 model lineup consists of two types: the standard model and the "S Edition," which comes standard with a headlight cowl, fork covers, and a brown diamond-stitch style seat. The color variations have been refreshed, with new colors added for each.
Mat Fresco Brown
A new color added to the standard model. A new color characterized by its calm tone.
Candy Rosy Red
A new color added to the S Edition. The vibrant red enhances the custom taste.
Mat Gunpowder Black Metallic
A color available for both the standard model and the S Edition. It harmonizes with the bike's blacked-out parts.
Note that the model announced is for the European market. While its release in Japan has not been clarified, it is highly likely that similar changes will be incorporated into the 2027 Japanese model, including the Rebel 250 which shares the same chassis.
